What is the Beach EDGE program for Economics?
Students enrolled in this Beach EDGE (Expedited Degrees in Graduate Education) program will complete the Economics B.A. and M.A. requirements offered by the Economics Department by double-counting ten units of three M.A. courses towards both degrees.
The courses that can be double-counted towards both the Economics B.A. and M.A. are:
- ECON 510 – Advanced Microeconomics,
- ECON 585 – Econometrics I, and
- ECON 587 – Research Methods in Economics.

Eligibility and Admissions
To meet the minimum admissions requirements you must:
- be a matriculated undergraduate student at É«ÖÐÉ«
- complete 60 units
- have junior standing or higher
- met the major-specific requirements
- have a É«ÖÐÉ« cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- have taken ECON 310, 311, and ECON 380/MATH 380/STAT 381 at É«ÖÐÉ«.
- Transfer students who took those classes elsewhere would not qualify for the program.
- complete ECON 100, ECON 101, ECON 310, ECON 311, ECON 380/Math 380/Stat 381, and MATH 115/119A/MATH 122 with a grade of B or better.
- Students planning on completing the required classes in the summer between the junior and senior years may also apply with conditional admissions depending on if they earn a B or better in these classes.
- A student can apply based on an anticipated grade, but in that case, admissions decisions will be conditional until the final grades can be verified.
Students can apply for admission to the blended program in the spring of their junior year by emailing the following application materials to econ-grad@csulb.edu by the June 1 deadline.

Faculty should send recommendation letters directly to econ-grad@csulb.edu. Advise the Faculty to use the same subject line as the rest of your application materials.
The Beach EDGE programs offered by the Economics department will only admit students in the fall semester.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by the Graduate Admissions Committee which includes three É«ÖÐÉ« Economics faculty members.
4th Fall
- Econ 510: Advanced Microeconomics (3 units; complete with a grade of B or better)
- Econ 585: Econometrics 1 (4 units; complete with a grade of C or better)
- Both 510 and 585 are double-counted
4th Spring
- Econ 587: Research Methods in Economics (3 units; complete with a grade of C or better)
- 587 is double-counted
- Obtain a B.A. degree
5th Fall
- Econ 511: Advanced Macroeconomics (3 units; complete with a grade of B or better)
- Econ 690: Seminar in Economics (3 units; complete with a grad of B or better)
- Econ 691: Economics Research Lab (1 unit; complete with a grade of B or better)
- Econ 500-Level Elective: (3 Units; complete with a grade of C or better)
- Recently we have offered Econ 565: Economics Development (3 units)
5th Spring
- Econ 586: Econometrics 2 (4 units; complete with a grade of C or better)
- Econ 600-Level Elective: (3 units; complete with a grade of B or better)
- Recently we have offered Econ 670: Seminar in Trade and Development (3 units)
- 400-Level Economics Elective:(3 units; complete with a grade of C or better)
- Obtain an M.A. degree
Double-Counting of Courses
Beach EDGE students in the Economics Department may double-count ten units of three M.A. courses towards both their B.A. and M.A. degrees: ECON 510 (3 units), ECON 585 (4 units), and ECON 587 (3 units). These courses must be completed in residence at É«ÖÐÉ«. Transfer courses cannot double-count. Other graduate classes cannot count for B.A. requirements.
