About Us
色中色 Comparative World Literature is proud to present the revival of its annual journal: Genre. After a four-year hiatus, the Genre Editorial Collective is up and running this Fall semester, hard at work making an issue that is both for students and by students. The pi猫ce de r茅sistance of this new and revised Genre is the curation of a discursive space for everyone.
We are dedicated to publishing creative and scholarly work across any and all disciplines. With each issue of Genre, we seek to showcase works crafted by the 色中色 student body from all realms of study. Providing a platform of expression for 色中色鈥檚 diverse range of academic disciplines offers students the opportunity to put into practice the valuable theories and techniques of their academic pursuits. With this compilation, we hope to embody each issue鈥檚 thematic focus, bringing to life topics of emotional and cultural relevance for the 色中色 community and beyond.
History & Past Issues
Created in 1967, Genre has a long and rich tradition of multilingual and multicultural perspectives. Previously categorized as an 鈥渁nnual scholarly journal,鈥 the inherently manifold condition brought on by Comparative World Literature as a field of study ensures that the strictly scholarly mode (and, the strictly liberal arts) more or less falls short. Our new expansion seeks to reflect this multiplicity and encompass perspectives beyond the scope of 鈥渢raditional鈥 literature. This brings synthesis to the forefront of Genre: the development of a platform open to any and all forms of expression, from any and all fields of study and creation.

Call for Submissions
Genre will be accepting academic and creative work relating to the theme of the upcoming Comparative Literature conference: Ecocriticism and popular culture. Stay tuned!
We will eagerly accept multidisciplinary works, including:
- Art/illustrations
- Photography
- Stories/fiction
- Scripts
- Designs*
- Poetry
- Essays
*These works may be based in graphic design, architecture, engineering, fashion, etc.
If you have work that does fall under this theme but does not place under one of these descriptors, email us genrecsulb@gmail.com and we can discuss eligibility!
It is also important to note that this new version of Genre is taking on a new form. First, the journal will be digitally accessible. This is a core tenant of digital humanities that Genre seeks to incorporate: preservation in the face of natural deterioration. We will also be offering print on-demand, as a contribution of tangible artifacts to pave our departmental history; they also make good coffee table books!

Meet the Team
The Genre Editorial Collective is a student group guided by Dr. Viola Lasmana in charge of reviewing, editing, and publishing the works contained in the journal. Students interested in this opportunity should enroll in the course Genre CWL 495 to obtain valuable experience in publishing creative and nonfiction works.
