Use of Force Train the Trainer

Force Options - Use of Force and De-Escalation

This course was developed in accordance with PC 13519.10 and is designed to assist agencies with the use of force training related to GC 7286. Trainers completing this course will be eligible to certify and instruct the Force Options Use of Force/De-Escalation Course, which meets POST’s Use of Force and Strategic Communications Perishable Skills Program subjects (Commission Regulation 1005). This instructors' course covers the legal and policy standards regarding use of force, the duty to intercede in excessive force, and a supervisor's responsibility subsequent to a use of force incident. The course incorporates elements of implicit bias, mental health awareness, and learning strategies as they pertain to use of force and de-escalation.

This course is designed to meet upcoming Use of Force Instructor training requirements per commission regulation 1070.

Upon completion, students will receive all materials necessary to certify and teach the PC 13419.10 Force Options/De-Escalation Course. Student will also receive guidance on developing their agency's basic Use of Force PSP course.

Students are required to bring a laptop and power cord for this course.
