MSCE Admissions Requirements

Satisfy university requirements for graduate admission. Additional department-specific requirements are listed below: 

Applicants with a domestic undergraduate degree require: 

  1. An earned Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with essential undergraduate prerequisites in civil engineering satisfied. Graduates of curricula outside these program areas may be required to satisfy program prerequisites before full admission into the program. 
  2. A GPA of 2.8 or above from upper-division engineering classes. 
  3. Submit a statement of purpose (with clear indication of the area of specialization). 
  4. Submit three (3) professional and/or academic letters of recommendation (Exception: This requirement is waived for applicants with a GPA greater than 3.0).  

Applicants with an international undergraduate degree require: 

  1. An earned Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with essential undergraduate prerequisites in civil engineering satisfied. Graduates of curricula outside these program areas may be required to satisfy program prerequisites before full admission into the program. 
  2. A GPA of 2.8 or above from upper-division engineering classes.  
  3. Demonstrate English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL score of >= 80 (iBT), or overall IELTS score of >= 6, or DuoLingo score of >= 115). The complete list of options for demonstrating English Language proficiency can be found on the . 
  4. Submit a statement of purpose (with clear indication of the area of specialization). 
  5. Submit three (3) professional and/or academic letters of recommendation (Exception: This requirement is waived for applicants with a GPA greater than 3.0).
