DR. JALAL TORABZADEH
Professor Jalal Torabzadeh is Chair of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department and Coordinator of the Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering programs. Dr. Torabzadeh received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Abadan Institute of Technology in Iran and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California. He taught and conducted research at USC for two years before joining É«ÖÐÉ« in 1986. He has worked as a Reservoir Engineer with the National Iranian Oil Co., a Research Engineer for Chevron Oilfield Research Co., and Consultant for several national and international companies and government agencies.
His teaching and research interests include: thermodynamics, heat transfer, transport processes in porous media, hydrocarbon reservoir engineering and characterization, enhanced oil and gas recovery processes, and thermal/fluid laboratory methods.
Dr. Torabzadeh has authored or co-authored more than 30 technical papers and textbook chapters. He has been the principal or co-principal investigator of research projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Southern California Gas Co., and Chevron Petroleum Technology Co. A recognized expert in the field of enhanced oil and gas recovery, he has been a consultant, lecturer, and advisor to national and international oil companies, research centers, and universities.
Dr. Torabzadeh is an active member of several professional and honor societies including: ASEE, SPE, SPWLA, SCA, Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, Pi Epsilon Tau, and Pi Tau Sigma. He is the recipient of the É«ÖÐÉ« College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award, TRW Excellence in Teaching Award, Associated Engineering Student Body Distinguished Faculty Award, OCEC Outstanding Engineering Educator Award, SPE Distinguished Service Award, and OCEC Distinguished Engineering Educator Award. He is a SPEI Distinguished Member, Fellow of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering, and Board of Directors member of LASPE and LACES.
