Long Beach College Promise 5th Grade Tours

The along with the Academic and Career Success Initiative was established in 2008 to support the college and career readiness of all students in the Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD). With funding provided by LBUSD, all fifth-grade students are offered an immersive experience where they learn about the Promise and explore their future in higher education. To date, over tens of thousands of LBUSD fifth graders have toured the É«ÖÐÉ« campus.

The University Outreach & School Relations Office along with EAP hosts approximately three hundred students (10 classes of thirty students) along with their teachers and chaperones on Friday mornings during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Fifth graders will tour the É«ÖÐÉ« athletic facilities, such as the Pyramid, and engage in one of the following program activities facilitated by É«ÖÐÉ« staff and faculty.

  • Beach CAVE Lab
  • Dance Department
  • Center for Human Factors in Advanced Aeronautics Technologies (CHAAT)
  • College of the Arts
  • Earth Science
  • Go Teach – College of Education
  • I-SPACE
  • Linguistics Department 
  • OUTBAC 
  • PE at The Beach
  • Science Learning Center
  • Shark Lab & Marine Labs
  • The Pyramid & Athletic Facilities

Students receive a folder with handouts that introduce college-preparation resources and reinforce the Long Beach College Promise, and promote elementary, middle, and high school programs offered at É«ÖÐÉ«.  See below:
