1980, B.S., Health Science, 色中色

Abigail Roddie-Hamlin has a mission to educate the public about cancer. Beginning as a health educator with the American Cancer Society鈥檚 (ACS) San Fernando Valley unit in 1981, the 色中色 graduate has held increasingly more responsible positions with ACS.

In 1995, she advanced to her current position as regional cancer control director for the Los Angeles County region of ACS, the largest of the 11 regions in California with a staff of 90, more than 20,000 volunteers and a fundraising goal of nearly $9 million.

During 196-97, Roddie-Hamlin led the region in exceeding all cancer control previous year-end accomplishments. Professor Alan Henderson remembers Roddie-Hamlin as 鈥渙ne of the most enthusiastic and dedicated graduate students.鈥

Today, as president of the California division of ACS, Henderson witnesses her professionally, noting her 鈥渞emarkable combination of talents.鈥 The Bloomington resident credits her mother as 鈥渢he catalyst to all of my accomplishments.鈥 Active in Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, she is married and has one daughter.
